You may be wondering,
"Why an application process?"

First, I'd like to thank you for your interest in my services.  Private coaching is my most exclusive service and I only accept clients on an application-basis.

Why?  It's been my experience that not everybody is ready for personal training.  Now I don't mean this as a insult on anyone's character, it's just that a personal training program requires a good deal of time, effort and financial investment when compared to the myriad of quick-fix alternatives.

This application process is designed to ensure that 1) you really need a personal trainer and b) if we're going to work together, it makes sense for both of us to enter into a professional relationship.

For many prospective trainees, this process is an eye-opener and helps make the actual training program make more sense (thereby speeding up the results-process).

Others find that this process can be educational and/or motivational enough that they don't actually have to invest their resources into a professional training program - and that's fine with me.  If this process is enough to help you do it on your own, I just ask that you send me an email to let me know about your success!

And there are some who may discover that even though the intention to transform their body and life was there, for one reason or another, this just isn't the time to start a full blown fitness training program.  You know what they say about 'leading a horse to water...'.   If you don't have a certain level of self-motivation already, my ability to help you is going to be limited right out of the starting gate and I don't want you to come in with false hopes that I have some kind of "magical formula" to make your fitness goals appear.  Body transformation isn't rocket science, but it does take an understanding of the way the body works along with some well-directed effort.

Now that you understand the why, let's get started on the how...

HOW TO APPLY:
This process consists of 2 sections:
a written/email component and a phone interview (approx. 20 minutes).

To get started by scheduling your phone interview right away, just send me a brief message right now telling me why you're interested in changing your life. (A new window will open so you don't lose this page)

CLIENT INFORMATION FORM - You'll receive this by email when you contact my office to schedule your phone interviewTake your time, complete the form as accurately as possible and return it to the email address provided.

Sometime before our phone chat, I will also need you to complete a food diary consisting of 4 consecutive days.  You can submit it on any day of the week, but the food log MUST include a Saturday and Sunday. (meaning, Thurs-Sun, Fri-Mon or Sat-Tues)

FOOD LOG:  This is always my first 'assignment' for new clients.  It doesn't have to be pretty, only legible and slightly organized.  I don't care if you scribble it on a napkin or create a high-tech spreadsheet complete with pie charts detailing your nutrient intake.  All I really need to see is what you're eating, when, and an idea of how much.  As long as you can email it, anything goes. Here's an example:

Breakfast  7am

Bagel, egg, sausage, 2 cups of coffee (with milk)

Lunch
1.30pm

Roast beef sandwich, bag of potato chips, can of diet soda
Dinner
6pm
Chicken parmesan (restaurant portion), broccoli, slice of cheesecake, 2 glasses of red wine
Snack
10.30pm
String cheese, glass of chocolate milk, microwave popcorn with butter (whole bag)

Simple, right?  If this is too difficult to do for 4 days, I must warn you now, the training program is even more demanding!

I realize this should go without saying, but please be honest when completing your food log.  That late night pizza and beer you "forgot" isn't going to help either of us.  I promise, I'm not going to judge you or give you a "grade" for your current nutritional habits.  Good, bad or ugly, I just need to get an accurate picture of what is currently "normal" in your routine.  Plus, gaining awareness of what you really eat every day might even be enough of a kick in the you-know-what to help you start making the changes you already know you should.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  You get one shot at this.  If you don't have your food log ready by the time we have our scheduled phone interview, it's an indication to me that improving your fitness really isn't that important to you right now.  Yes, things come up.  Life happens.  Please understand, it's my business to help you change your life.  I expect your best efforts even during challenging times.   As much as you're interested in finding the best personal trainer, I'm also work with only the best clients. And I do reserve the right to decline an application for any reason.

PRE-REQUISITES*

Nutrition: To be successful, it's important that you have at least a base level understanding of what 'eating right' means.  For this, I recommend Dr. John Berardi's Precision Nutrition plan.  To learn about PN, you have 2 options:

1) Go to this link and purchase the complete program.  It retails for $147, though at the time of this writing, you can save $50 through the end of the month.

2) If you're not ready to invest in yet another "diet plan", you can sign up for Dr. Berardi's FREE 8-day e-course by clicking this link.  It'll give you a good overview of the program so if we do ultimately work together, we'll be able to speak the same language.

Activity: In the beginning, I'm not as concerned with what exercise you do as long as you're doing something.  If exercise isn't already a habit, start right now.  I recommend a minimum of 3 hours cumulative exercise each week.  If you "don't have time" now, will you have time when we're working together?

Experience: My most successful clients have tried just about everything before coming to me - diets, videos, group fitness classes, even other personal trainers.  Having an idea what doesn't work for you puts us on a fast-track to fitness success.

Financial:  You may already be aware, personal training isn't cheap.  Exactly how much depends on a variety of factors which we can discuss during your phone interview.  And if you're going to exercise at home, you'll probably need to invest in some equipment (which we'll determine based on your personal goals, experience, space and budget).  I've found most home-based "gyms" can be equipped for as little as $150 and still give better results than a fully stocked 25,000 square foot commercial facility.

* even if you don't currently meet these minimum requirements for my private coaching, I do still encourage you to apply.  I may be able to recommend one of my other programs which may be more appropriate for you at this time.

Remember, to schedule your personal training phone interview, send me a message right away and I'll also send you the client information form plus a special bonus as a thank you for your interest.
